It is with heartbreak and gratitude that we announce the passing of our Mama, Cynthia Joyce McCaslin, age 84, from this world and her homecoming into Heaven last Saturday morning October 10, 2026.
She enjoyed many names throughout her life. Daughter to Regeon and Kitty Daily. Sister to Randall Daily and the late Farris Daily. Wife and true love of John Austin McCaslin. Mama of Barry McCaslin (Renee), Sherry Peek (Derek), Myra Gannon (Shane), Amy Branch (Jeremy). Granny to Ashton Peek Hanks (Daniel), Brittany Peek Jones (Patrick), Avery Branch, and Aubrey Branch. Great Grandmother to Liam Hanks, Landry Hanks, Scarlett Jones, Lawson Hanks, Everett Jones, and Violet Jones. Aunt to several nieces and nephews. And Friend to all she met. Most importantly servant of the Almighty God.
Born March 27, 1942, she grew up on the banks of the Buffalo River along Russell's Creek in Lobelville, Tennessee. Her kindness and sweet spirit were obvious from a young age. One day she found a poor baby chick that had fallen into the slop bucket. She immediately plucked the chick out, nursed it back to health, and even trained it to scratch on the doors of the house when it wanted to come in or go out. Her brothers convinced her to name it Turdwacker.
When she was a teenager she agreed, after much convincing, to meet the brother of her best friend's boyfriend for a possible date. The plan was to meet at a McEwen basketball game. When she entered the gymnasium, she spotted him in the bleachers surrounded by five girls. She declared him to be full of himself and that she would never date him. In turn, he said she was cold as a cucumber. But eventually they dated and one night as he helped her with her coat she realized "I think I really love him." They married in September of 1961. The years passed, they built a house, they built a home, they built a family. Everything they built had a Godly foundation.
She raised four children all while keeping an immaculate house, cooking three meals a day, and washing thousands of loads of laundry and dishes. Somehow, she still managed to have the softest coolest hands with which to stroke our brows when we were sick. It was that same soft hand we held the morning she died. We always knew we were loved, cherished, and safe because of her.
All her life she had a servant’s heart and used it to serve her Lord, her family and her church. She always sacrificed her needs to make sure the needs of others were met.
No more sacrifice, no more pain. Our Mama is truly home. Well done, thou good and faithful servant. Enter thou into the joy of the Lord. Matthew 25:21
