Geneva Page Smith Holt, age 91, of McEwen, Tennessee, passed from this life and was welcomed into her eternal home in Heaven on Friday, January 23. 2026, at Humphreys County Care and Rehab in Waverly, Tennessee, surrounded by her son Jimmie and family friend Sandra Baker. Her family finds comfort in knowing she is now at peace and no longer suffering from dementia.
Page was born on February 11. 1934, in McEwen, Tennessee, to the late Clyde Ramond Smith and Agnes Lorene Turner Smith. She was the third of eight children raised on the Smith family farm on Mount Zion Road. From an early age, Page learned the value of hard work. She helped tend gardens, raise cattle, pigs, chickens, and goats, clear trees, gather firewood, and load loose hay onto wagons. During the summers, she and her sisters picked blackberries, selling them for one dollar a gallon to help buy their school clothes. Her father owned a blacksmith shop where he made horseshoes, pokers, and farm equipment, further shaping the strong work ethic she carried throughout life.
Page attended McEwen High School, where she and her sister Mable played basketball. When rides were scarce, they walked the six miles to school and were always grateful when their principal, Byram Phy, offered them a ride home.
She moved to Miami, Florida with Huston Holt where their first son, Don, was born. Several years later, the family relocated to Danville, Illinois, where their second son, Jimmie, was born. While in Illinois, Page devoted herself to raising her children and maintaining a home. She grew flowers and a large vegetable garden and carefully stocked her basement shelves with rows of home-canned vegetables.
Later, Page earned her Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) degree and, in 1986, returned to Tennessee to help care for her ailing father with her siblings. After his passing and following her divorce, she moved back to the family farm in McEwen, where she supported herself through her work as a caregiver, compassionately caring for many patients over the years. She was well-known among family for her delicious cooking, especially her chocolate and coconut pies. Her desserts were a treasured part of family reunions and gatherings and were frequently shared as heartfelt tokens of appreciation when she needed help with a project.
Page was a strong-willed and determined woman who faced life’s challenges with courage and faith. By the grace of God, she survived ovarian cancer and rebuilt her home after it was destroyed by straight-line winds in November of 1996. Her resilience, work ethic, and devotion to family will be remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Page is survived by her two sons, Don Holt (Ruth Ann) of McEwen and Jimmie Holt of McEwen; two granddaughters, Lonnie Holt (Chad Chasteen) of New Johnsonville and Lainey Kohlmeyer (Zach Richardson) of Eufaula, Alabama; five great granddaughters, Lexi Chasteen, Bailey Casteen, Carly Chasteen, Willow Richardson, and Aspen Richardson; and her sisters, Adgil Howell, Bonnie Himes (Ronnie) and Helen Thomas, along with several nieces and nephews; and special friends Hilda Wilsdorf and Sandra Baker.
In addition to her parents, Clyde and Agnes Smith; she is preceded in death by her brothers, Herbert Leon Smith, Joseph Charles Smith, Sr., Paul David Smith; her sister, Mable Katherine Smith Cochran; sisters-in-law, Bettye Wheeler Smith and Linda Greer Smith; brothers-in-law, Raymond Gene Howell, Sr., James William Thomas, Sr., and Virgil Reece Cochran; nieces Janice Elaine Cochran, Lucinda Smith Osborn; and great nephew, Chasen Warren.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, January 28, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again on Thursday, January 29, 2026, from 11:00 a.m. until service time at Humphreys County Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, January 29, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. in the Humphreys County Funeral Home chapel. Bro. William Brown will be officiating the service.
Interment will follow at Smith Cemetery in McEwen, TN.
