Michael Jay Thrasher, 78, of Waverly, Tennessee, passed away on July 21, 2025. Born on December 30, 1946, in Attalla, Alabama, Michael dedicated his life to service—both to his country and his community.

Michael served honorably in the U.S. Army National Guard and was called to active duty during Operations Desert Storm and Desert Shield. A proud paratrooper and certified jumpmaster, he rose to the rank of Sergeant. As a member of the 20th Special Forces group he served as a distinguished Green Beret. His military career took him around the world, with deployments to Italy, Germany, and Puerto Rico, earning him numerous commendations for his service.

Michael continued his legacy of service as a Park Ranger, Child Protective Services Investigator, and Youth Counselor. In each role, his dedication to protecting and guiding others was unmistakable.

He earned an Associate of Science degree in Allied Health from Gadsden State Junior College, followed by a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and a Master’s degree in Criminal Justice from the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga—reflecting his lifelong commitment to education and service.

In retirement, Michael embraced life fully. He enjoyed traveling, woodworking, gardening, and fishing. He was a classic car enthusiast and an avid historian, especially of military history. A true Alabama Crimson Tide fan, he never missed the chance to cheer on his team—Roll Tide!

Michael was preceded in death by his parents, JB and Laeuna Thrasher, and his brother, Patrick Thrasher. He is survived by his beloved wife, Patricia; his son, Michael Bradley Thrasher; and his grandchildren, Zoe and Phoenix Thrasher.
