Mindy Sioux Clifton

July 31, 1974 — October 10, 2025

Scotts Hill, Tennessee

It is with great sadness that we announce the sudden passing of Mindy Sioux Clifton (née Wannick), 51, on Friday, October 10, 2025. Mindy was born July 31, 1974, in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, to Michael Wannick, Jr. and Susan “Sioux”Wannick (née Bibik).

She was employed as a Production Worker at Accurate Energetics Systems in McEwen, TN. After moving from Canada, she lived in the Deland, Florida area for most of her life before relocating to Scotts Hill, TN upon her recent retirement after proudly serving 21 years as a Senior Corrections Officer with Volusia County in Florida.

Upon retirement and moving to Scotts Hill, Mindy continued her love for the outdoors and raising animals. During her high school years, Mindy was an active participant in the Future Farmers of America (FFA). Her enthusiasm for being a part of the FFA was exemplified through showing animals and participating as a judge several times at the Volusia County Fair. Mindy was an accomplished barrel racer and competed with her beloved chestnut colored American Quarter Horse, Sonny, for many years throughout her youth.

Mindy was very proud of her Native American heritage and was a member of the Sioux Tribe. As a single mother, she embodied strength, resilience and unwavering dedication raising her son with endless love and support. She cherished the memories they made on their vacations and treasured the time they spent bonding. Those who knew Mindy will remember her for being adventurous, outgoing, having a love for travel, and being a strong independent woman who looked out for all of those she cared about. Her love for long drives on her motorcycle reflected her adventurous and free spirit. She possessed a boisterous personality and a knack for finding the humor in any situation. Mindy had a truly beautiful soul who radiated light and joy to everyone she met with a love for life that was infectious.

Mindy was predeceased by the love of her life, her husband, J. Scott Clifton. Survived by their only son, Kaleb Clifton of Winter Haven, FL; brother Cory Wannick of Deltona, FL; niece Kiley Wannick of Chiefland, FL, nephew Nick Wannick of Deltona, FL; cousin Sydney Kotow of Richmond, Missouri. She also leaves behind many other family members and friends who will sadly miss her.

We ask that you remember her not for the way her life ended, but for the way it was lived, and for the profound impact it had on the lives of those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

The family has chosen cremation with services to take place at a later time. The Volusia County Division of Corrections is hosting a memorial ceremony at the Volusia County Jail on November 13th at 2pm.
