Robert Earl “Bob” Basey, age 84, of McEwen, TN, formally of Indianapolis, IN, passed away Saturday, November 29, 2025. He was born in Needham, Indiana on June 8, 1941, to Edward Earl and Stella (Bennett) Basey. He graduated from Morristown High School in 1959. He married Carol (Manthei) on August 9, 1977, in Reno, Nevada.
Bob worked as a butcher for Needler’s for sixty-one years before retiring in 2020. He was a lifelong bowler, where he accomplished bowling a perfect game of 300, and bowled a 299 coming up one pin short of another perfect game. He played softball for many years. Bob was an avid Nascar fan and attended several races yearly with his son, Keith. He loved watching Indy Car as well and got the opportunity to have Mario Andretti drive him around the Indianapolis Motor Speedway track.
He is survived by his son, Keith (Abby) Basey; grandson, Taylor Basey; stepdaughters, Debbie (Mel) Bradley, Cynthia, and Toni Ann; and step grandchildren, Joey, Jeremy, Stephanie, Haley, Jackie, and Jessica. He was preceded in death by his wife, Carol Basey; parents, Edward and Stella Basey; and siblings, Bill Basey, Ruby Basey Kinder, and Dick Basey.
Visitation will be held on Monday, December 8, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 1:00 p.m. at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory, 1484 W. US Hwy. 40, Greenfield, IN 46140. A funeral service will be held immediately following the visitation at 1:00 p.m. Chaplain Rob Mifflin will be officiating. Burial will follow at Asbury Cemetery in Morristown.
